The newest SUV option in the Subaru lineup is the 2019 Ascent, which boasts seating for eight passengers, a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, and a cavernous cargo hold that's certain to haul just about anything you need. This is a utility vehicle in the truest sense, though it still provides the safety, reliability, and comfort the Subaru brand is known for.
Drivers in Somerset, Bristol, and Fall River can see what's in store for the 2019 Subaru Ascent with our in-depth model review.
New Ascent Performance
The new Ascent comes equipped with a 260-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder with ample torque, which gives this large SUV the power and thrust needed to move quickly. This remarkable engine also mates to a Continuously Variable Transmission, which extracts every last bit of power. With all-wheel drive, the Ascent is also exceptionally surefooted and can handle just about anything the road throws at it.
Properly equipped, the Ascent can tow up to 5,000 pounds. This is impressive for the class and gives you the capability to haul a small boat, camper, or trailer loaded up with ATVs.
Interior Space and Comfort
The new Ascent interior combines the best of quality and utility, with high-end materials and padded seats. There's plenty of head- and legroom throughout, and the sound insulation and acoustic glass provide a whisper-quiet ride. With three rows, the Ascent can seat eight people, but the optional second-row captain's chairs drop the capacity to seven and provide more comfort for the second-row passengers, as well as improved third-row access. Rich leather tops off the interior comfort offerings.
The cargo bay can accommodate 87 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded, which is one of the largest capacities in the class. The load floor is flat, and the lift-over height is low as well, adding to the ease and convenience of loading. This is enough space to haul luggage, sporting equipment, and even small furniture.
New Ascent Technology
The base Ascent model uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, though other models get an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen. Voice commands are also available, as well as Apple Carplayâ„¢ and Android Autoâ„¢ smartphone integration, which connects your device to the car's onboard system to stream music, listen to podcasts or audiobooks, and hear turn-by-turn directions from your phone's maps feature.
Subaru's EyeSight driver aids come standard for all models as well, which bundles Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control. These features are designed to give you insight into the area around your vehicle and alert you to pedestrians or obstructions to limit the risk of a collision, as well as apply the brakes when they detect an impending collision.
