The Subaru Crosstrek and
the Jeep Renegade are two rugged options in the compact SUV segment.
Though they both offer off-road capabilities and a similar approach to
utility and practicality, there are many differences to consider in
choosing the right one for your needs.
Drivers
in Somerset, Bristol, and Fall River can learn more about these rugged
SUVs with our Subaru Crosstrek vs. Jeep Renegade comparison.
Performance
The
Crosstrek uses a flat-4 engine that produces 152 horsepower and
shuttles power through a 6-speed manual or a Continuously Variable
Transmission. The Renegade is equipped with a 160-horsepower turbo
4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. Every new Crosstrek
model comes standard with all-wheel drive as well, which is optional for
the Renegade and standard with the off-road Trailhawk model.
Both vehicles have cushiony rides and comfortable steering, as well as minimal body roll and lean around corners. On the trails, the off-road performance of the Renegade varies by trim level, with the Trailhawk being the most capable, and the Crosstrek is ready to take on any terrain right out of the factory.
Subaru Crosstrek vs Jeep Renegade Safety
Like other Subaru models, the new Crosstrek excels in safety. It earned a 5-star overall rating for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which are the highest for both organizations. The Renegade earned a four out of five overall for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as well as the high rating of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Crosstrek also improves its safety with EyeSight®, a full suite of collision-avoidance technology like Lane Departure Warning, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and Automatic Emergency Braking. The Renegade also bundles many of these safety features in its Advanced Technology Group option.
Interior and Features
Both
vehicles offer seating for five in comfortable, supportive seats. The
headroom is great in both, but the new Crosstrek interior offers slightly more
legroom and a more spacious rear seat, though both have an airy feel to
the cabin that makes for a pleasant ride. It also has more cargo space
at 55 cubic feet, compared to the Renegade's 51 cubic feet. This is
mostly a result of the way the cargo hold is configured, with its low,
square shape and easy liftover.
All Crosstrek models come with a touchscreen infotainment system and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, which allow you to stream music and access information from your phone to your vehicle's built-in system. The Renegade offers many of these features, as well as performance-specific upgrades for off-roading.
