    • Don’t buy this car

So we have outback 2019 and right now 2020. The biggest problem is a windshield. The windshield of outback 2019 had cracked without any reason,so we came to dealership to change it. Before we did some research and find out that many Subaru’s windshields broke very easily since 2015 and there is even a law suite. Anyway dealership contacted the corporate with a claim and it was rejected so we have to pay $1000 out of pocket to fixed and calibrate. While they were fixing it we’ve got a loaner outback 2020 and guess what it was parked 2 days and windshield cracked again, it’s May so there isn’t any big difference in temperature, it wasn’t raining. I DO NOT recommend this car until the company change windshield supplier. Such a disappointment...

The number one key attribute of the Outback is the form factor. Most folks don't need a third row. Outback's height allows for some better passenger comfort than the typical SUV. Just the right size inside and out. Comfortable ride and interior but things like seat adjustments and cooling fans can be noisy. Nice radio. BBC sounds great. Headlights are bright and do a good job lighting the road. Big screen works well but isn't intuitive. Personal pet peeve - All cars should forget proprietary electronic interfaces and either be Apple or Google interface. Reviews led me to believe this was a near luxury vehicle like a high end Toyota. It's not. NO big problems but not the equal of an Avalon or Highlander Limited. Given it is cheaper, but its looks, fit and finish seem cheaper too. The single biggest issue is the standard engine/transmission package. The engine will rev to 3,500 merging into a stream of 40 mph traffic. Getting up to speed on the freeway runs the revs even higher. It's like the engine has no torque and needs to rev up to the horsepower peak to generate any power. Unfortunately when you accelerate it goes clickity click like a sewing machine. They need to pipe in some mildly robust engine sounds to cover up the annoying real engine sound. The start-stop is also annoying but I'll get used to it. The manuals are confusing. There is a Getting Started book and an Owner's Manual plus EyeSight manual and two Starlink manuals Numerous normal functions aren't noted in the Owners Manual index or cross referenced to the other manuals. One of the main reasons I bought the Outback is the tech. Fortunately you can use a lot of it without the manuals. Since I don't know what Eyesight and Starlink are I've been happy to live without them. As I understand it four stars means very good. Five stars implies perfection and I don't expect perfection for $40k.
    • function and quality in all purpose cross-over

I'm a first time Subaru Outback owner but have friends with outbacks. Outback has huge following. I bought the outback touring XT because I wanted an SUV with a safe comfortable ride and functionality for the highway or off-road for parks and snow. The Touring XT provides that. It's far superior to my previous Equinox in handling. While there are some great mid and full size SUVs on the market the outback gives great function and comfort at a reasonable price with high safety features. I strongly recommend the turbo with 260 hp unless you only drive in the city. The base engine has about 182 hp. While I'm a tech geek I do feel the screen sacrificed ease of use for appearance. The outback should be strongly considered for those who want safety, comfort, function and do not need or want a 3 row SUV.
